This event is a fun gathering of like minded indiviuals more than a car show. We hope to get as many cars here as possible regardless of condition or modifications.

LS1 Power Party

Hello everyone it looks like winter is gone for most of us. The time to bring those street machines out of the garage is almost upon us.
To help kick things off DBR High Performance will be hosting and sponsoring various events. Some of you may know that we just had our "No Cars Allowed" show which catered to our diesel and truck friends. That show was a good time for all who attended even though weather was cold and rainy.
The next event will be the "LS Power Party" This event will be a gathering of vehicles (all makes and models) with GM Ls Power. That means you Mustang guys with an LS1 can come too.
This event will also be annual and with this being the first year for it we will not have a dyno set up.
The date will be April 24th from noon til 4pm. this makes it short enough that you still have time to mow your yard and hit the gathering.
come out and enjoy meeting other LSX fans while visiting our shop.

Pearl Harbor Day is significant to Hot Rodders

Pearl Harbor day is a significant memorial for Americans and car guys alike.
Although the auto racing had already taken root in America and in Europe and the Model T was being turned into speedsters and doodle bugs the current automotive culture did not develop until after World War 2.
It was returning WW2 vets who came home and used their increased income and war experiences to begin cutting up and tearing down the older cars that had been setting around the country side.
This abundance of autos and the new found boredom of home away from war lead many young men to go racing. At first it was the venerable Model A and Model T getting the more powerful Ford Flat head V8 engine swaps. These smaller lighter cars found significant gains with a 1932 and up Flatty.
It was during the fifties that these same guys found that the all new Chevrolet V8 which was a push rod engine placing the valves over the heads was far more powerful and accepted modification in a more gratifying way than the now dated Flat head.
The small block Chevy fit right into the light weight 32 Ford and many others. These cars where the first truly quick street cars. Hot Rods became a part of our culture as they were both denigrated and loved. Hated by the clean and straight they represented a dangerous loose life and were not the desired toy of retirees that they are today.
The spirit of the hot rod lives on today. As we modify cars to gain more power and more speed we are following in a long line of Americans who have come and gone.
Today we squabble over a LS1 in a Mustang and claim blowers are better than spray but these things are not new. The true spirit of the Hot Rodder enjoys the pursuit of speed more than the resale value of his ride or cultural taboos. Keep in mind a Chevy in a Ford has been around a long time since the fifty's and like it or not the Flat head V8 was the original engine swap of choice even during the Great Depression. Blowers, nitrous, or moth balls in water, or moon shine injection they are all the same.
So this Pearl Harbor Day stop and consider. When Pearl Harbor was attacked the world barely new the custom car seen. But when those boys came home after wooping some Axis of Evil they came home to become guys that we now immulate with our hobby.

Joe Gibbs racing oil.

Let me be the first to confess that I don't usually take my engine oil too seriously. I have always been one to be happy with clean oil, and good pressure. However I have just purchased some oil I felt you should know about.
Joe Gibbs racing oil now offers "Hot Rod Oil" an engine oil that is designed for engines that sit for long months with out use. Hot Rod Oil uses the same technology used by the military in there engines that are being stored for combat duty.This oil prevents corrosion inside your engine that can be caused by moisture resting on internal parts that have long since dried out due to inactivity. It's a high zinc synthetic oil too so it will work great for the flat tappet engine in your antique.

I will be using it now for my 1990 Mustang that sets for long periods of time in storage.

Happy Thanksgiving every one.

Well it looks like the time is almost here and man I couldn't be more ready for it. The time for setting back feasting and then doing nothing for a while.
Maybe it's the state of the world today or maybe it is just the time of life but it sure seems like everyone is run completely ragged all of the time. And as I say that and as I look forward to the soon to be "restful" holiday season I must admit that I am also looking forward to the coming year. 2010 looks to be a good year for both my family and DBR. We work daily to plan new activities and goals to both build our reputation the best and most enjoyable speed shop in Tennessee and to have a little fun for ourselves too.

For 2010 be watching DBR as we plan more events for enthusiasts like our diesel and truck gathering, The annual Fox Body show, Burgers, Brats and Burnouts, and more. You can also expect that DBR will be continually growing our product lines and knowldege to better serve you and your hobby.

So as you sit back and enjoy the holidays remeber to stop by and say hello to your beloved local speed shop (DBR High Performance) and maybe even bring your family members who come in to visit. Until next time ya'll have a happy thanksgiving.

Making a list and Checking it twice.

Have you made your list yet?
The list that you memorize until January in case someone asks you the greatest question of all time.
"What would you like me to get you for Christmas?"
It may seem a little early for this but hey we know how some people like to shop early. It's happened far too many times for me. I've not made a list, then when asked by a loved one at the wrong time and place I have caused many a nights of sorrow. Too many times I have been out with my wife or a close family member when they would ask the question.
When unprepaired my mind would race as though my very life could be on the line. As I fumbled through Hot Rod magazine clippings in my head I would become tense and anxious. Then like Ralphie talking to Santa Claus I would blubber out some stupid item that really means nothing to me at all like a new leaf rake or something. It's really hard to go back afterwards and bring up something like a programmer or exhaust kit when you first mentioned a $5.00 item.
I suggest that you start making a list. Check it twice (make sure the part numbers are all correct) then staple a DBR business card to it and leave it her make up drawer.
She'll love you for making her job much easier.
